We went to MtZion UMC in Finksburg for Palm Sunday service. Bill's old friend and pastor Lou Piel is Pastor there. We urged him to read this book and he recommended it to the entire congregation right in the middle of announcements! He's going to do a study of it in May. It definitely is a different way of looking at God.

I finished it. Bill's reading it now. I don't object to the flickering souls but neither do I buy the idea....anyway, I think I need it to sink in before getting into a spirited discussion about it. Good read, good ideas, good fiction!

Surprised? Well, it's just that I thought the trinitarian concept was kind of 'light' for you. Like you said, I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.

Yeah, it's just that I thought the flickering bit was a little bit off the point. I thought the waterfall scene wrapped things up better. The trinitarian analogy worked, I thought it could be supported by scriptures, but that other part was pretty much just his own imagination. It was cool but kind of Hollywood.

Why would you be surprised?

There were a couple of little tweaks in there that I might have said differently and several things that weren't addressed at all. But the things the author chose to tackle were very eloquently said.

To to be a spoiler (many reading here have not read the book)... I didn't mind the flickering souls at all... kind of a cool way of thinking about that which we can't possibly comprehend.

You have floored me once again, oh great dancing bear. I am completely taken by surprise with your remarks. I have a couple of friends, erstwhile agnostics, who have decided to take a much closer look at the faith because of this book.

I liked about 90% of it. I really, really liked about 90% of it. He kind of lost me, though when he went into all that detail about the flickering souls of humanity. But that's just me.
