CHANGE (my plan)
AND HOPE (no one notices)
Thank God… That’s a phrase I don’t use flippantly and in this case I mean it quite literally. Thank God… It seems (too early to know for sure yet) that our president-elect indeed was just blowing smoke to make the far left and the media elect him. My worst fear was that he would actually do what he promised… thank God he’s just another lying politician!
- He’s about half way through making his appointments. Change… an economic team of supply-siders. Whew..
- He’s already backing off of his grand plans to punish the successful. Hopefully that means he’s listening to newly appointed Christina Romer, his Chairwoman of the Council of Economic Advisors.
- He clarified that he may not create 2.5 million jobs, he will “save or create” 2.5 million jobs. How do you quantify how many jobs you have saved?… Well I hope he “saves” mine. I’m not much for digging ditches and building roads (jobs which he intends to create).
- He’s keeping Gates (the current Secretary of Defense), bringing back Jones (an appointee of Condoleezza Rice) and Holder (an appointee of Ronald Reagan).
- Even his selection for Secretary of State is being hailed by Rush Limbaugh
We’re not out of the woods, but maybe I can breath a little bit… we’ll see.

Wow found your blog after some google searches. I remember all the good times I had playing worship music with you and singing the great songs that you wrote - I’m still singing your songs every so often..
I’m surprised to find your blog so full of bitterness and hopelessness and punditry - not quite the hope and grace and love that I was expecting from you. Hope you are doing alright. I’ll be praying for you and hope that you can get over this bitterness and find something to be joyous about!

Added on December 2nd, 2008 at 7:25 amI just completely disagree with that point of view.
To be appropriately engaged and critical of the political and cultural landscape is to know what people who don’t know Jesus see.
But what do you think, Bud?

Added on December 2nd, 2008 at 7:58 amWow!! Hey Karl. How’ve you been? Hope Jen and the kids are doing great.
Nah, I’m not bitter… I like how Jason put it, ‘engaged and critical’ is more like it.
Even since we were all together, I have been on a journey of deconstruction. Deconstructing the church particularly and now that journey has extended beyond into culture, our country and our government. What do I mean by deconstruction? Tearing away all the junk and getting back to the core principles. Thinking of things in a cleaner purer more thoughtful way. Whether its looking at the church machine and peeling away the layers that cause hurt, confusion and distraction from Gods message or pulling away the curtain of an incredibly broken political system which is based on greed and superficiality.
I hope you stick around. Even if you disagree, you’ll be treated well. I always welcome new perspectives. Please read some of the archives. Even the previous post about the Terror Texts. There’s lots of great thought provoking, uplifting and hopeful conversation to be found. Hopefully it will become clear that I’m not bitter and certainly not hopeless… with regards to the next administration, I definitely am concerned.

Added on December 2nd, 2008 at 10:44 pmgood to hear from you all.. my family is doing find in NM.. enjoying life in the desert.
All I can say is that i’m glad that i will have a new boss in 48 days.. I hope you don’t have to go through all the stages of grief that I had to go through after the 2000 election.. just know that if things look bleak.. this too shall pass - and the earth will be renewed….
Its fine to blog about issues.. but take care to note that not all Christians are Fox News talking-point spouting Republicans.. I know that you know that .. but if that is all that I get from your blog, I will likely not be an avid reader.. but if you have some new songs… I would love to hear them.
I’m curious about how conservatives will regroup… what needs to be changed to win hearts and minds - but also if there are any changes that less about fear and making people afraid and more about substance… Are folks truly fearful and doom and gloom as what we hear from Dobson?

Added on December 3rd, 2008 at 8:38 amProbably a reasonable statement, but for different reasons. I’m not sure I would say ‘riled’ up, but activated or engaged.
For at least the past 16 years we’ve had leadership that has blown with the wind of public opinion and it looks now as if we have 4 more years of the same. With that being the case that means the public holds a lot of power. Therefore, we need to make the wheel squeak. The media is widely becoming passe and useless, the internet and bloggers are becoming the new voice.
Karl, I do hope you join in. I find that engaging with those who may see things differently provides much more growth and substance than cloistering oneself with people who agree… (just ask Chris
)
I see political parties a lot like Christian denominations. Basically outdated, divisive, ineffective and piled high with garbage that obscures the core message.
My core principles don’t really align well in totality with either of the major political parties. Rather than try to appease perceived public opinion, conservatives need to strip everything away and return to core principles.
In this election while one party relied on fear, the other relied on division and pitting one group against another. What we need is adherence to the fundamentals of the Constitution, freedom and equality… most of which (if he does what he promised) will be eroded in an Obama administration [BTW some of that erosion started with Clinton and continued with Bush].

Added on December 3rd, 2008 at 8:40 amKarl, only a very small portion of the conversation here has anything to do with politics, most in the past 4 months…
Check out the archives or the category list… it’s always good to see old conversations open back up.

Buddy, Jason’s right; If you thought that up yourself you are a genius. Can’t believe I haven’t heard anywhere else. But it’s like I was saying earlier when so many folks were wringing their hands about Obama; the Presidents always move to the center after they are sworn in. The current economic and international situations are just forcing Obama to show his hand a bit earlier. Bravo for him. (And Hillary will be much less dangerous outside of the country than inside it
)
Karl, good to hear from you. Chill out a bit. Buddy is far from a bitter and hopeless pundit. (Just as I am not quite the bleeding heart panty-waste that Jason thinks I am
). The blog format tends to come across as polarizing when someone takes as stand. If you look back, Buddy and I have been arguing for years, not always playfully, but one thing I have always been certain of is that Buddy pays attention to what others are saying. He is very open minded yet very opinionated. Both good qualities in my book.
I wonder how you feel about all the ‘impeach Bush’ stickers or the comedians and pundits that try to make him look stupid and vain? Aren’t they even more ‘bitter’?

Added on December 12th, 2008 at 4:04 pmYeah, I really cringe when I see bumper stickers like that. I feel the same way when I hear people refer to Hillary as a bitch or that Reagan was senile or FDR was a communist. When people simplify and stereotype like this I realize that there is likely little point in engaging them in conversation.
Don’t you dare go soft on me!

Added on December 12th, 2008 at 4:09 pm…or when they refer to Obama as American hating Muslim socialist (like every newsletter says that I get from the American Family Association). Sure, some of his ideas are socialist. And so are McCain’s. And let’s not forget the Big Government ideas of GW.
The sad fact is, as you suggested above, they are just responding to the typical American, who apparently thinks that socialism is just great. And that goes for the big boy capitalistic captains of industry helming the banks and the auto industry.
