Journalism is Dead
“Promote then as an object of primary importance, Institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge. In proportion as the structure of a government gives force to public opinion, it is essential that public opinion should be enlightened.”
George Washington, Farewell Address, September 19, 1796

Added on November 18th, 2008 at 1:27 pmHas nothing to do with the campaign, has to do with reforming the media. They have officially failed. This cross section just happens to be Obama supporters, but in general, the media has not provided adequate information for the average voter to vet BOTH candidates. This is glaringly obvious by the answers given by these folks.
As far as working together to support this president… I pray that he turns out to be a liar that made a bunch of false campaign promises to get elected. That’s our only hope. If he actually does what he promised, we’ll be in deep trouble.

Added on November 18th, 2008 at 7:04 pmI have been saying for years that the media…print and airwave….has failed. Now, throw in blogs which should not be considered a “news source” and there is nothing you read or hear that can be trusted. Your YouTube clip is very much like Jay Leno’s bit called JayWalking. I would guess they interviewed many more people and only published the dumb, funny ones. I pray Obama can serve in his office effectively and safely.

Added on November 18th, 2008 at 8:07 pmYou should go to the web site. Actually, the survey was done quite scientifically. They sought out more intelligent respondents. There is an accompanying Zogby poll that was done with a much larger sampling and the same results.
Most of what is on TV is not news, it’s commentary, much like what’s on the radio. The problem is that it’s pawned off as news. Blogs are quite a valuable source of commentary as well, but should not be confused with news. There is no reliable news anymore, the one’s that are even close are written off as ‘conservative’ because they dare to criticize. The clue is that they criticize pretty evenly. It is a much scarier thing when the ‘news’ NEVER criticizes… That is what we now have, fawning, ogling and worshiping… NEVER criticizing.
We will see those who criticize will be eliminated within the first year (Fairness Act, etc..)… mark this day, so I can come back and say ‘I told you so’…

Added on November 19th, 2008 at 1:57 pmLOL. When have either of us ever hesitated to say “I told you so”? Well, I went to the website as you suggested. I don’t feel any more informed or educated than I do from the mass media. The site is obviously biased (i.e. “Americans were shocked that a man of Barack Obama’s limited experience, extreme liberal positions and radical political alliances could be elected President of the United States.”) so they really are no more an accurate source than print or airwave media. EVERYONE puts spin on their “reporting” so it is really quite a conundrum to find truthful facts. I used to say maybe I’ll move to Alaska to escape it all but, yikes….I can’t even do that now!!!

Added on November 19th, 2008 at 3:48 pmWell, that web site is in no way trying to portray themselves as a non-biased news source… Of course they are biased, they are trying to make the point that the media failed to ‘enlighten public opinion’ in the words of Washington… and the general public failed to adequately educate themselves.
There’s plenty of information out there to be had. The problem is that people put too much trust in any single source, or just deliberately ignore contrasting or conflicting viewpoints. Personally, I toggle between FOX News, CNN and MSNBC to get a full view from all sides, then I can make up my mind for myself. On the internet, I have a bookmark of over 20 sources that I browse which range from National Review (right) to Air America (left).
