Back to Core Values
So my blog has been decidedly political the past few month (when I actually posted anything). Like many Americans this week, I’ve been going through sort of an introspection. I realize that over the several years I’ve gotten complacent about my political, fiscal, social views. I’ve been disenchanted with the current version of the Republican party and George Bush. I was heasitant to even call myself a Republican, much like I never liked calling myself a Methodist. I began to embrace terms like ‘Libertarian’ or ‘Federalist’ or mostly, no label at all…

The First Republican
About a year and a half ago now, I actually briefly considered that I might even vote for Barack Obama… Democrat for the first time in my life. No one really knew anything about him (do they now?) or his policies. I just heard a few sound bites that sounded kind of good.
As the election cycle moved on, I began to pay more and more attention to the actual issues, rediscovering the core values which I really cared about. Now, after completely immersing myself in this election, the stark difference between conservative and liberal philosophy could not be more clear.
I’m seriously wondering if more parties and ideologies is really a good idea. I’m begining to reexamine the core conservative principles, those that started as an opposition to slavery… freedom, equality, responsibility… those are the things that are important to me politically. I look at the divisions in the Church. Divisions that were based on secondary and peripheral differences… that didn’t seem to work out so well… we have quite a mess there.
Anyway, I’m thinking… I will probably continue to add political discussion to this blog. I think most of the little traffic I had is pretty much gone due in part to my focus on politics as well as my apathy in writing at all over the past six months… But I hope I can draw folks into this conversation and figure out how it plays into our role in the redemption of Gods Creation (if at all).
I’ll leave with a link to a video. This guy gets it. He’s a young guy… a young Christian Conservative… Nothing at all like Mr. Potter, George Bush or Strom Thurman.

Added on November 7th, 2008 at 7:26 pmThe slow traffic is solely a matter of your infrequency at posting and responding to comments. Your philosophy and political slant is reasonable and well thought. Actually, if you were more of a nut then more nuts might drop by.
Keep it going.

My problem is trying to keep away from blogging to get some things done with home, family, work, school and church. It’s a constant itch that cries out for scratching.
Stay balanced.
